The Vineyards Way -1- East (Llevant)

Sencelles is wine land. Its history, culture and landscapes have vine colors and the smell of grapevine wood. This culture, already rooted in mediaeval times, has adapted to new times and the area offers a magnificent range of wineries with excellent wines that are well worth visiting and tasting. An ideal route to do by bike so you can discover by stopping and visiting these wineries in the eastern part of the municipality. An itinerary to enjoy and  savour  Sencelles’  countryside.

1

Can Ramis

The wine cellars are located at the estate with the same name as that of the nuclei of Sencelles, founded by Pere Molinas Amengual and Francisca Amengual Ramis, on the lands that were once Son Morei. Later Catalina Vallori Florit and her son- in-law, Antoni Cirer (known as Toni Ramis) continued the work . Subsequently, Francesca Cirer and Maties Llabrés followed the family’s viticulture tradition. At present Pere Antoni Llabrés is now in charge of the vineyards, being the fourth generation dedicated to the elaboration of wine. The cellar preserves the original aljub (cistern) which is used to age the wine. The family business uses the different varieties of grape vine: Manto Negro, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet and Premsal Blanc.

2

Ca sa Padrina

Located at the Camí dels Horts, here we have a cellar founded at the end of the 20th century, specifically in 1999. The owners, the Sunyer family, come from a winemaking tradition and it is from here they began their adventure. The vineyards occupy about 12 hectares, according to the vine training system. It is registered in the Denomination of Origin of Binissalem. The varieties used at this winery are: Manto Negro and Callet (both autochthonous), plus Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah.

Bodega Son Campaner

This winery’s beginnings started out in the year 2000 on around 5 hectares of land in extension, with four grape varieties: Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Manto Negro. Due to the increase in demand, in 2009 the winery rented a warehouse in the town of Binissalem to be able to produce the vintage in demand. Finally, in 2015, the grounds were expanded and a modern warehouse was built, with stone cladding, where the entire winemaking process is currently carried out.  The varieties of Chardonnay and Macabeu have also been added.

4

Bodega Santa Catarina

It was founded in 1984 by the Swedish winegrower Stellan Lundqvist in the Andratx area. Despite the success of his wines, in 2002 he stopped  producing wines. However, in 2014 his sons recovered the project at the estate of So n’Aloi in Sencelles, constructing a new cellar and a reception centre. In 2020, the first production of wines were on the market with two types: Majorcan wines – indigenous varieties – and Mediterranean wines – indigenous varieties together with foreign ones, especially Syrah. The winery works with Manto Negro, Callet, Syrah, Merlor, Premsal Blanc, Giró Ros, Viognier, etc.

This winery is located on the road that goes from Sencelles to Inca, at kilometre 4’9. The journey of this winery began in 2003 from vineyards that had been already planted in the nineties of the last century by Jaume Llabrés. This family, with a winery past, have bravely carried out this great project. The vines are located on the particular Mallorcan land named “call vermell” (red earth). Music concerts are held on the premises of the winery, especially during the summer. Son Prim works with Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah varieties.

Cap Andritxol

The facilities of this winery are located near the llogaret (hamlet) of Cascanar, specifically on the road that goes to Montuïri, kilometre 2’7. It is relatively a young business since its adventure began in 2016. The name comes from a spectacular maritime surveillance tower located on Cape Andritxol, in the same municipality of Andratx. It currently has a production close to 100,000 litres of wine, of which 55% are white and rosé, and the rest red. Part of the vineyards are located in the area of Sencelles, although the winery also uses grapes that are grown in Felanitx, Santa Maria, Pollença and Porreres.
